PMCS Introduces It’s New President – Ms. Marilee Garza

MARILEE GARZA

President, PMC Solutions, Inc.

Ms. Marilee Garza, PMP, became the new President of PMC Solutions, Inc. (PMCS) in March 2012 after spending over 11 years with the company.  Ms. Garza was chosen for the position by PMCS Board of Directors as a part of PMCS internal succession planning in order to expand the company’s profile, and remain competitive as Government Contractors.  Ms Garza brings to PMCS an impressive background in project management & controls support services in Federal Government contracts, a fresh perspective on integrating Project and Process Management solutions, as well as a celebrated track record in Customer Service.

While with PMCS, Ms. Garza has spent the majority of her time on projects supporting various districts within the USACE.  Most recently, Ms. Garza lead a Project Controls Team supporting the USACE—Northwest Division (NWD) in Kansas City, Missouri.  For over five years, Ms. Garza and her team were responsible for providing long-term Project Management Support for the Implementation and Maintenance Support of the Programs and Project Management Information System (P2), as well as General Project Management services, including PM/P2 training, support, and process development throughout the USACE—NWD.  In this capacity, Ms. Garza and her team received yearly Customer Service recognition from the USACE—NWD leadership, for their outstanding support and continued professionalism, which eventually lead to an extended contract for PMCS.  As a part of this contract extension, Ms. Garza was suggested by the Deputy Commander of the USACE—NWD to join in the USACE’s Project Management team efforts in supporting the Joplin, Missouri Recovery Filed Office (RFO) as it carried out its emergency recovery projects following the devastating F5 tornado that ripped through the city of Joplin.  Ms. Garza spent one month with the Joplin RFO, supporting the following missions, while reporting the results to FEMA, the City of Joplin, and the US Coast Guard:

  1. Debris Removal
  2. Temporary housing
  3. Critical Public Facilities

Upon completion, Ms. Garza authored a White Paper for the USACE—NWD, detailing the Implementation Plan used, with the goal of standardizing how Project Controls will fit into future recovery efforts for RFO emergency projects.

Prior to her appointment with the USACE—NWD, Ms. Garza provided support to multiple USACE districts and divisions over a five-year span in Galveston, Texas; Baltimore, Maryland; and Norfolk, Virginia.  Her job responsibilities at each location varied from data entry to process analysis and project controls support for complex federal funding projects for military construction.  Further, while supporting the USACE, Ms. Garza received her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Malcolm Baldrige / ISO Quality examiner certification, and became proficient in USACE specific systems such as Primavera, Oracle, and U.S. Corp of Engineers Financial System (CEFMS).

Ms. Garza aims to expand PMCS’ professional services and expertise in her new role as President, which will include incorporating PMCS’ established Process Management support services, with our exemplary Project Management services to achieve quantifiable project success rates.  Creating a stronger link between PMCS two areas of expertise will bring the companies’ multiple departments’ closer together, in order to achieve the ultimate company goal: increased customer satisfaction.

A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ms. Garza received her Bachelor’s in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University, and an Executive Master’s in Business Administration (EMBA) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2011.  She currently resides in Albuquerque where she looks forward to a successful tenure as the President of PMC Solutions, Inc.

From the CEO: Knowledge Sustainability (aka Knowledge Management or Knowledge Retention)

…a funny thing happened to inProcess™ on its way to market. The original conceptualization of inProcess™ had been aimed at providing support to companies and organizations that were primarily focused on pursuing a quality journey in ISO, Malcolm Baldrige, Lean Six Sigma, CMMI or other Quality Management Systems.  We felt that there was a huge need in the market for software and services that could provide organizations with the necessary tools to establish processes that were in-line with stringent quality initiatives.

Then one day I asked a customer how his organization was using our software and services, because I knew he was not engaged in any type of quality journey.  He informed me that his company was successfully utilizing inProcess™ for retaining the knowledge and expertise of personnel that were going to be retiring within the next 12 months to five years.  According to their Human Resource department, a significant amount of their personnel (mostly baby-boomers) were going to retire within five years.   In his experience, the best way to capture this critical knowledge that was heading out the door was to map and document how theses employees fulfilled their job responsibilities, and then relate these processes to the companies’ Standard Operating Procedures.

The initial task of capturing how out-going personnel completed everything from daily tasks to major projects, to the conversion of these process maps and documentation into an automated training manual for new employees, was all accomplished within the customer’s already established framework of inProcess™.   These process maps were then used as a tool to train new employees.  Through this serendipitous conversation with our customer, PMCS positioned a revised focus on marketing features of inProcess™ as a means of knowledge retention, rather than merely a tool used to promote the organization’s Quality Journey, with exceptionally positive results. Companies and organizations may not have an initial Quality focus, but knowledge retention, through process mapping and the utilization of inProcess™, can be a great asset to companies wanting to successfully plan for the future.

From the CEO: QNM 2011 Quality Award Recipients

The Quality of New Mexico (QNM) organization, just published their 2010 Quality awards recipients.  We are proud and honored that two of our inProcess™  customers were 2010 Road Runner recipient winners:  French Families of Companies, and Gila Regional Medical Center (from Silver City NM).  This is a huge accomplishment for both of these organizations.  The Quality Journey that they both have ventured into is not  easy. This journey follows  very stringent Malcolm Baldrige criteria.  PMCS itself has been the recipient of the Road Runner award twice, so I am writing from experience.

We are honored to be a part of these two organizations’ respective Quality Journeys, and wish them continual success in their respective industries.  In the past inProcess™ was also a major process management tool for two Zia award recipients, in 2005 Don Chalmers, Inc. won the Zia award (highest level QNM award) and in 2008 the Kirtland Federal Credit Union was also a Zia award recipient.

PMCS is proud to provide a solution tool (inProcess™) in support of these recipients, and others business process management initiatives.

About QNM

“Quality New Mexico, through partnerships, workshops, events and assessments, provides valuable education and feedback on quality concepts to New Mexico organizations.  It is the only official program in New Mexico to determine and provide recognition to recipients on level of accomplishment.

Quality New Mexico also administers the New Mexico Quality Awards that is modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards Program.  The NMQA program assesses and recognizes organizations at three levels: Zia Award for Performance Excellence, Roadrunner Recognition for Progress, and Pinon Recognition for Commitment.” —QUALITY NEW MEXICO
